Keywords Still Rule as Number 1 SEO Tool

According to Erin Everhart, director of web and social media marketing for 352 Media Group, the good old fashioned use of keywords is still the number one way to boost an SEO campaign. Even with the tweetings of Twitter, the Likes of Facebook and the +1s of Google, you apparently can’t beat good keyword research and usage for high search engine rankings.

The mistake a lot of people make when it comes to keywords though is that they fail to think like their potential customers. All too often keyword research gets distorted and people try to squeeze as many different variations of their top keywords into their written content as possible. Not only does this dilute the usage of your top keywords it doesn’t reflect what your potential customers will be looking for.

The answer to this problem is to put yourself in your customer’s shoes. Think about what they might be typing into the search box…and by this we mean the exact words. Also think about what questions will they be asking and what important words will they use to ask the questions? Then focus your website content around the most important keywords and phrases so that the next person that asks will get your website as one of the top results.

Keeping up with the subtle changes in keywords is tedious to say the least but your hard work will pay off in the end. Think about the words normal people will use to search for your product/business and you’ll start to see better search results before you know it.
