Onsite Widgets For SEO?

The boffins at Google recently admitted that ‘Tweets’, ‘Likes’ and ‘+1s’ are now being used to rank webpages, in addition to the traditional SEO techniques. This means that placing a widget i.e. a small clickable button that allows you to share a webpage through one of the social media platforms, can be a quick and easy way to boost the rank of your website.

And one of the best ways to get people to share your website is with a contest, or a competition. So, let’s say you add a competition page to your website where you advertise that you’re giving something of value away free. You then share the competition with your followers on Facebook, Google + and Twitter and encourage them to take part.

Then, somewhere on the competition page offer another entry spot in the competition if the page is shared via the social media buttons. This way you get a decent number of ‘shares’ to improve your SEO and ranking, and more people to your website.

Of course the only down side is having to cover the cost of the competition prize or prizes. You might want to think about offering a service for free e.g. if you’re a car mechanic offer the winner and two runners-up a free service and MOT etc. so that you don’t have to spend cash outright.
